Med Flight to fly over parade Monday | Arts & Culture
New this year to Monona's annual Memorial Day Parade is a scheduled appearance by a medical helicopter.
The Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m., but parts of Monona Drive will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. and stay shut down until noon. The route starts near Monona Grove High School and will travel south on Monona Drive, turn right onto Owen Road and end at Village Lanes.
Organizers said more than 100 units will take part in the 1.5-mile procession including military color guards, clowns, marching bands, live animals, firetrucks, scouts, floats, antique cars, dance groups and more.
New this year is that Med Flight is also expected to make a fly over at the start of the parade.After the parade, brief memorial ceremonies to honor those who have and are serving our country will be held at:
- 9:30 a.m., Monona Grove High School
- 11:15 a.m., Blooming Grove Cemetery
- Noon, Roselawn Memorial Cemetery
- 1 p.m., Highland Memory Gardens
- 2 p.m., Madison Veteran's Park
- 3 p.m., VFW Post #7591
Organizers said portable bathrooms will be located at Gunderson Funeral Home, Sorge CPA & Business Associates, Village Lanes, Dean Health and Rubins.
