Parking restricted on 7 Monona roadways for fireworks event | News
The city of Monona said parking will be temporarily restricted in some areas Saturday because of Rhythm and Booms.
Temporary "No Parking" signs will be posted Saturday morning and are scheduled to be removed Sunday, according to police. Portions of Winnequah Road, Outlook Street, Progressive Lane, Tonyawatha Trail and Pocahontas Drive will have no parking on at least one side of the street.
The city of Monona said parking will be restricted in the interest of public safety, since crowds are expected to view the fireworks from the Monona side of the lake.
"The streets with parking restrictions are less than 30 (feet) wide," the city wrote in a notice this week."Bumper-to-bumper parking on both sides of the streets could result in emergency equipment (fire trucks or ambulances) not being able to get through in the event of an emergency."
The city said residents in each affected area were mailed letters informing them of the upcoming temporary parking restrictions.
"Since this is the first year of this event on Lake Monona, we are unsure how it will affect our city, but we are acting proactively," the city wrote. "Expecting more activity, we will have additional staff on hand but would appreciate your cooperation by not parking in these areas and also informing any guests of these temporary restrictions."
